  Getting Started

The process of having a custom piece of furniture is just that, a process. There are certain steps that must take place before the wood gets cut. So, I have laid-out the following steps to help you understand the process.

step 1 - contact
This step can take place in many forms. You may have found my website, seen my vehicle driving down the road or you may have simply run into me in a parking lot. Regardless of how you came to find me, all you need to do is let me know that you would like to meet with me to discuss an idea or a need. At that time, we can set a date, time and place to meet and discuss your project.

step 2 - 1st meeting / request
This meeting usually takes place in the client's home/office where the furniture will eventually reside. This allows us to discuss the physical location where you want the furniture to be placed or installed. I also like to review any examples or images that you may already have that resemble the piece(s) that you are interested in having built.

At this point we can discuss how the furniture will be used and if there are any special considerations, such as paint/stain color, wood types, finishes (shiny or matte), obstacles/special considerations(electrical outlets, special height limitations/needs, relative proximity to other objects in the room, etc.

During this time I like to take photographs of any of the considerations listed above (if necessary) so that I have reference material for the remainder of the process.

step 3 - estimate
Once we have discussed your needs, I will provide you with an estimate for the project. This estimate will include at least the following;
  • Dimensions. length, height and width
  • Finish. painted, stained, colors, shiny or matte
  • Hardware Considerations. drawer pulls, door knobs, etc…Who will provide them and what style? Are examples necessary prior to completion? Etc…
  • Delivery Date. this date is an estimate at best (if the timeline must change, I will let you know prior to the date on the estimate)
  • Special Considerations. if this piece(s) must be installed or if anything else must take place prior to delivery of this piece(s), it will be noted here
  • Price. the estimate will have your total cost, including any taxes

step 4 - signed proposal
Once all details are decided, I will ask you to either sign a copy of the proposal or provide me with some form of authorization to begin building your furniture. I require a 50% deposit up-front.

step 5 - construction
While I am building the piece, feel free to contact me as needed. I can provide you with digital photos if you have questions or concerns about the furniture. If any changes are requested during this time, I will ask that you, once again, approve the changes before the project continues.

step 6 - delivery
Once the furniture is near completion, I will contact you so that we can decide on a deliver date and time. If installation is required, multiple dates/times may be necessary to complete the job. Once I have delivered the furniture, I will ask that you sign a copy of the delivery receipt and pay the remaining balance.

Step 7 - comments
I consider each job a privilege and like to post testimonials on my website. I use this information to continually enhance my work. Also, it helps me to know if there is any part of the process that I need to improve or even change.
Many things can happen during the process and some steps may take place out of sequence. I will work with you in any way I can to satisfy your needs.
